Iconic Fans Of Jewelry
Monday, November 2nd, 2009Two iconic jewelry horses have got to be Elizabeth Taylor and Joan Rivers. Elizabeth Taylor talks about her “love affair with jewelry.” I’m sure many women can relate. But few can say they have a 33 carat Krupp Diamond ring, or a Taj Majal heart shaped yellow diamond brooch, or a 29 carat diamond, ect., ect. And oh that Joan Rivers! Her jewelry is as big and bold and out-there as she is.
There will also always be crime and tragedy connected to jewelry. Alfred Hitchcock directed a famous movie called Gaslight. In the movie a man murders an opera star for her fabulous jewels. He flees without the booty, however. He later marries the niece of the murdered singer in order to gain access to the home she inherited from her aunt. He (played by Charles Boyer) conducts searches for the jewels in the attic, while simultaneously driving his murder victim’s niece (played superbly by a very young and beautiful Ingrid Bergman) insane. Finally he finds the jewels sewn into one of the opera costumes that has sat rotting-like his soul- in the attic. But-well, I’ve told you too much already if you haven’t seen it.
One other icon comes to mind. How about Marilyn Monroe singing that diamonds are a girl’s best friend? Romance, tragedy, and friendship; every possible meaning and emotion can be tied up in jewelry.
Their are so many types of jewelry available now days that stars will wear. Often times we will want to wear the same gold chains, diamond bracelets and amazingly beautiful earrings.
