A tiffany ring, from friend to lovers

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

Last week I had an unforgettable trip with an intimate friend to an amusement park. We had fun in almost all the items in the park but the most impressive one in my opinion was the 4-d film. It was a treasure story: with the mysterious music sounding, there appeared the magnificent world of deep bottom of the sea. I could feel the flow of the seawater, and the movement of uncountable small fishes and other sea creatures. After that there were suddenly a great amount of treasures poured upon us: rings, necklaces, and diamonds, nearly all of us could not help standing up toward them. When a ring reached my face I suddenly heard the shout of my friend: “I will get it for you Abigail! It is a Tiffany! Would you let me put it on your finger?”

I didn’t quite catch his word at that time but later thinking back, I was suddenly startled. Certainly we could not really catch any of the treasures, but the words of my friend stuck in my mind. Oh, what a romantic thing it would be if someone really sent me a Tiffany ring! But I immediately said to myself: what are you thinking about? He is just a good friend, a friend who can play with you and accompany you through any difficulties. But that’s all. And I laughed a little silently, letting the idea passing.

We had lunch together that day in an expensive restaurant in the amusement park. Yes, things are always expensive in tourist spots, but I didn’t want to appear too stingy before my friend now that he suggested it. I ordered a plate of boiled rice and went to the counter. But the moment I reached out my hand with money, it was pressed down. Turning around I found my friend smiling. “Let me treat you to the meal.”

While eating he said all of a sudden: “Do you remember the Tiffany ring in the film?” “Sure. It was wonderful.” “You want one in real?” “Haha, will you buy one for me?” “Well Abigail, I don’t have the money now but I can do that maybe later.” “Oh? You are joking again, right Harley?” “No, I am serious this time. Well I am gonna be direct. Abigail, I like you, would you be my girlfriend? I cannot afford a Tiffany by now but I will work hard to earn it.”

And I was so moved. “Sure, you have always been a good friend and I believe that you can also be a good boyfriend. Take me!”

From that day on we were lovers.

• Coral

In sixteenth century, it was experimentally proved, that coral could cure madness, provide wisdom, and halt the flow of blood from wounds or gashes. It is also believed that carrying these sea creatures, could calm storms and enable safe voyage across broad rivers or seas.

Corals are basically dead marine organisms which, when alive, existed as sea anemones. However, due to their fascinating range of colors, they are kept aside as precious gemstones like diamond, ruby, emerald, pearl etc.

It is available in abundant colors such as pink, white, orange, red, and black. However it’s the red specimen that reserves a special place, topping demands. Most demanded one, is the blood coral which has become very popular in recent years.

After cut and polished, the glossiness allures buyers, making them a hot selling item. It is a fairly soft stone measuring 3.5 Mohs’ on scale. Therefore, it’s often found in cabochon cuts and beads. A belief persists that a coral tends to lose its magical powers, if cut.

• Jade

Jade derives its name from Spanish ‘piedra de ijada’ or loin stone. It’s called so because of its reputed efficacy in curing human flaws occurring in loin and kidney.

Favored long by Chinese, it is an effective gemstone to cure intestinal disturbances. This abundantly colored substance is found in different shades. In addition, it has been prominently placed into various ancient cultures, across the world, naming Mesoamerica, MÄori, prehistoric and early historic Korea.

Talking about jewelry, jade carvings and delicate rings and earrings have been found in plenty. There are mainly two types of this-nephrite and jadeite. However, both of them flaunt distinct physical properties involving weight, hardness, and color range. Both are called jade.

• Labradorite

A bright fascinating gemstone, with alluring gray shades, almost opaque stone, with in which surprising brilliant flashes of peacock blue, greens, and/or yellows, are visible at certain angles.

A feldspar mineral family crystal, this fairly soft stone is carved into cabochon and beads to use into jewelry. It measures 6 to 6.5 Mohs’ on scale.

Other varieties of this fabulous stone are spectrolite, moonstone, and sunstone. These actually differ from each other in high degree of iridescence.

The amazing world of precious valuables, discussed above, is more than fascinating. It is wonderful to come across such adorable varieties of gemstones, with an interesting mythological, and other factual background.

Today’s trends show that apart from sapphire earrings, tanzanite pendants etc, and the uncommonly used mineral crystals will soon be a fashion statement to possess.
