The Best Jewelry Rings For Autumn

Friday, October 9th, 2009

After scouring the pages of every major fashion that covered the best looks from NY Fashion Week, and the shows in Milan and Paris, we’ve come up with a list of the must-wear bracelet trends they noticed on the runway, and tips on how to steal the style and make them work with your everyday looks.

Cuff bracelets – We’ve seen a lot of cuff bracelets this year but lately, celebs like Sarah Jessica Parker, Cate Blanchett and Demi Moore are choosing to double up and sport the accessory on both wrists. If eight is great, then two is better. This also holds true for bangle bracelets as well.

Jewelry rings- narrow wire rings are great for summer, but autumn brings heavier and much thicker rings in colored enamels and eye-catching gold. Opt for heavier pieces that balance out wool and cashmere sweaters and won’t get lost in your overall look.

Opulence – Whether it’s a serious statement bracelet with a large bejeweled flower or a chunky gemstone bauble, you can’t go wrong with bold designs that  stand out. Wear eight with confidence to accessorize an evening gown or sport eight with skinny jeans also a ¾ sweater for a casual chic vibe.

Dark beads – Black beads and silver pearls are great for autumn and add elegance and sophistication to any cocktail dress. Try gumball size stones that will hold their own against a busy pattern or intricately embellished gown.

Vintage – Art deco inspired bracelets can be worn to dress up any look. Mix these fabulous bracelets with menswear or distressed pieces to keep the look fresh and modern. If you select to a rhinestone encrusted statement piece, keep the rest of your accessories toned down and allow the bracelet to shine.

Egyptian Jewelry – The Everlasting Beauty

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

The history of the earliest Egyptian jewelry can be traced back to around 4500 BC in the region of El-Badari. Counts of varieties found as museum jewelry confirm the progress of the finest traditions in the craft of jewelry through the period of the Pharaohs, the Greco-Roman era, and others, corresponding to 3000 years of successive dynasties.

Historical jewelry of Egypt reflected the powerful religious sentiments of the ancient Egyptians, whose carvings on jewels had motifs of beetles, signifying rebirth and other symbols suggestive of religious origins. As is well known, ancient Egyptians had a strong belief in after life. Pharaohs were therefore invariably buried with their earthly possessions including their personal jewelry. Museum jewelry reveals the use of bronze, ornaments made of an alloy of silver and gold with traces of copper, precious gems and surprisingly enough, glass. This was possibly because gems were more difficult to work on. Evidence is also found of the use of enamels in very rich and bright colors besides precious stones like quartz and lapis lazuli.

Museum jewelry of ancient Egypt is in the form of earrings, crowns, brooches and girdles. Daily use household articles made of bejeweled gold were also buried along with mummified kings and their queens. Today’s online sites market exquisite jewelry patterned after Egyptian jewelry articles. You can buy a garnet sterling silver necklace gilded over with gold in 22 carat or a bracelet in silver with scarabs. Some of these go back to the times of Nefertiti, Cleopatra and Tutankhamun. There are replicas of Ankh pendants and Thebes’s crown jewels going back to 3000 BC. There is a very attractive royal necklace with a gold plated chain.

There is another beautiful amulet in sterling silver suggestive of a figure in celebration that’s also a fertility sign. Then there are the famous Ankh pendants in sterling silver and Ankh earrings also in sterling silver with a 22 carat gold gild. You can order an Egyptian Dashur necklace going back to the Middle Kingdom or an exotic Egyptian charm bracelet.
