This is all well and good.  However, you need an engagement ring to present to your loved one at that special, life changing moment.

Tip 1.  Make a note of any costume jewellery she buys and wears.  If this jewellery is made in silver, then the chances are that she likes the precious metals which have a chrome finish, such as white gold or platinum.  Are these pieces of costume jewellery set with imitation diamonds, or coloured stones?  All these items set with a multiude of stones, or single pieces?  The amount of information you can glean from simply taking notice of the jewellery she currently wears is invaluable.

Tip 2.  Get the right size.  The last thing you want is for her not to be able to get the ring onto her finger.  Likewise, you don’t want to get it far too big that it swamps her finger.  Again, look at any rings she currently wears.  Get hold of one of these in secret and measure the internal diameter of the ring (the measurement from left to right of the internal ‘hole’ when looking at the ring side on).  You can then equate this measurement to a finger size.

Tip 3.  Consult her mum and her friends.  The fountain of all knowledge, her mother, will know the most extraordinary things about her daughter and will be able to provide you with some valuable insights into what she would prefer in terms of her diamond engagement ring.  Likewise, her close friends will be able to provide you with some information.  After all, what girls don’t look in jewellery shops during their shopping excursions.

Tip 4.  Buy your engagement ring.  Decide on a budget, and stick to it – it is easy to get over excited and pay more than you are comfortable with when buying luxury items.

Finally, enjoy the moment of presenting your engagement ring to your partner.  It is a truly life changing moment and one to be cherished.
