What a better gift to give your loved one on Valentines Day then a charm bracelet. Charm bracelets are a personal gift which symbolizes relationships and the personality of the receiver so it makes the perfect valentines gift for your wife or girlfriend. Charm bracelets are thousands of years old but the idea came to America during the First World War when navy officers brought them home as love trinkets for their sweethearts. The idea of the charm bracelet itself is romantic so to personalize it for your loved one make the gift all the more special as it will require effort to symbolize her personality and aspirations through the charms the bracelet will behold.

A charm bracelet contains charms that dangle from the bracelet itself, each charm represents an aspiration, triumph or dream of the individual you can buy charms to represent the place where you met each other, there are charms that represent love, your wedding day, your first born and charms that will represent the interests and aspirations of the owner like travel or dancing shoes etc.

I think a charm bracelet is a wonderfully romantic gift as it required effort and thought into your partner’s heart and will require remembering special memories about your relationship that will be placed on your loved ones arm as a reminder of your effort and love. It is the perfect gift for someone who is on a budget and doesn’t want to break the bank but still wants to have a big impact, with a well thought out charm bracelet you can’t go wrong.

Charm bracelets are back en vogue after 20 years of them being invisible. The charm bracelet has been with us for a long time the earliest charm bracelets where found worn by the pharaohs of ancient Egypt and the trend slowly made its way across Europe and eventually to the US brought here by solders in the first world war as love trinkets for their sweethearts. They made a revival in the 70s and then disappeared for a few years but they a definitely back in style now.

People love the idea of the charm bracelets and the romance of the piece they are being sold in all jewelry stores and department stores at the moment but the most coveted items are the vintage pieces of the 40s and earlier which fill us with notions of romance and fantasies of years gone by. The traditional charm bracelets are usually made from silver as it is better wearing than gold. It will fasten with a heart shaped padlock but the lock is a clip fastened and the keyhole has no key. The origin silver charms will be hallmarked with the English silver hallmark this is an identifier to establish year of manufacture of the piece so it will tell the age of the bracelet. The most sought after pieces will be hallmarked with the trademark of Nuvo and Chim.

The charms themselves are associated with good luck this goes back in history where the original charm where used as religious relics to ward off bad sprits. Most English charms will not carry a hallmark as the silver content will be too little to stamp the piece. Traditional silver charms will be of a grade .925 silver it is possible to find charms of a higher grade but this would be the norm.
